Tesla EV chargers installed in a garage

Sky Power Co. is a licensed electrical contractor (CSLB #1037507) in Sherman Oaks. We install home EV chargers, including the Tesla Wall Connector and other Level 2 chargers, in garages, carports and driveways across Los Angeles.

Level 2 charging at home

A Level 2 charger runs on 240 volts and charges several times faster than a regular wall outlet, so most drivers can start every morning with a full battery. It needs its own dedicated circuit from the panel, sized for the charger. For example, a Tesla Wall Connector can charge at up to 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit, and it can be set to a lower current if the panel has less room.

Can my panel handle a charger?

This is the first thing we check. An electrician adds up what your home already uses and what the charger needs. There are three possible answers:

  • It fits as is. The panel has enough spare capacity, and we add a dedicated circuit.
  • It fits with load management. A load management device or the charger’s own power-sharing setting lowers charging when the house is using a lot of power, so you can avoid a panel upgrade.
  • The panel needs an upgrade. Older homes with 60 or 100 amp service often need a panel upgrade first. We explain why and what it involves before any work starts.

How it works

  1. Visit. We check the panel, choose the charger location and the cable route from the panel, and explain the options and the price.
  2. Permit. We pull the electrical permit: LADBS in the City of Los Angeles, or the city’s Building and Safety department in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu and Calabasas.
  3. Installation. We run the dedicated circuit, mount the charger and set the charging current to match the circuit.
  4. Test and inspection. We test the charger with your car and schedule the city inspection.

FAQ

Do I need a panel upgrade to install an EV charger?

Not always. We check how much capacity your panel has left. Sometimes the charger fits as is or with a load management device; sometimes the panel needs an upgrade first.

Do you install the Tesla Wall Connector?

Yes. We install the Tesla Wall Connector and other Level 2 chargers on a dedicated circuit sized for the charger.

Do I need a permit for a home EV charger?

Yes. An EV charger needs an electrical permit and a city inspection. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection.

Can you install a charger outside or in a carport?

Yes. We install chargers in garages, carports and driveways, with wiring and equipment rated for outdoor use where needed.

How much does EV charger installation cost?

It depends on the distance from the panel, the circuit size and whether the panel needs work. We give you the price after the visit, before any work starts. The visit is $135 during business hours and is waived if we do the work.
