Electrical work in Burbank

Burbank is its own city, not part of Los Angeles. Electrical permits and inspections go through the City of Burbank Building & Safety Division, which accepts many electrical and service upgrade permits online. Power comes from Burbank Water and Power (BWP), the city-owned utility, not LADWP or SCE. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and coordinate with BWP.

For a panel or service upgrade, BWP has to inspect the work and unlock and relock the meter, so the utility is part of the schedule from the start. If you are adding a home EV charger, BWP runs its own EV charging rebate program; check the current terms with BWP before you buy a charger.

About half of Burbank’s homes were built before 1960, from the Rancho and Magnolia Park to the streets around Downtown and the Media District. Older homes often have original wiring and a panel that is too small for an EV charger, air conditioning or a kitchen remodel. Many residents live in apartments and condos, where we work for owners, landlords and HOAs.
