What you can check before you call
- A breaker tripped: reset it once. If it trips again, do not keep resetting it. The circuit needs to be checked.
- An outlet is dead: look for a tripped GFCI outlet with Test and Reset buttons nearby and press Reset.
- Part of the house is out: check the panel for a tripped breaker. If resetting it once does not help, book a visit.
- The whole house is out: check whether your neighbors are out too. If they are, it is a utility outage (LADWP, SCE, BWP or GWP). If it is only your house, call us.
When to stop and call right away
If you see smoke, fire or sparks, call 911 now. If it is safe, turn off the main breaker. If there is water near your electrical panel, do not touch the panel or anything near it. How a troubleshooting visit works
- Questions. We ask what happens and when, for example which appliances are running when the breaker trips.
- Testing. The electrician tests the circuit, the connections and the panel to find the cause, not just the symptom.
- Explanation. We explain what is wrong, how to fix it and the price before any work starts.
- Repair. We replace only the faulty parts. If the circuit is overloaded, we may suggest a dedicated circuit or, in some homes, a panel upgrade.
